Consumer Critiques
The invest in of this item was a knee jerk reaction/invest in to getting broken into final fall. The selection of having absolutely nothing vs having to subscribe to an alarm service was not pleasing. A relative has a comparable DIY alarm method and mentioned they had been pleased with it and this offered a middle ground.
As stated, the instructions are a little tricky to digest at first, but as soon as you understand it, it's fairly easy to system the unit and sensors. (The image shows the alarm having an extendable antenna as well as the sensors, but the unit received did not have any.)
The supplied no name batteries did not final particularly long. The one motion sensor that is in a high site visitors region died with in three months and the replacement battery is not performing so well (brand name). So do not be shocked if you have to replace the 9V battery twice or 3 instances a year in high visitors locations. The remote manage battery is an odd ball size that I only identified at Radio Shack (did not look via the internet, it was really stocked). I bought added motion sensors and the door sensors I have not mounted yet. Hold extra batteries for the sensors about and check the sensors that they are working.
The unit is suppose to have a battery backup, but I have however to see how that works. If you have to manually switch it more than, then it is pointless (only skimmed the manual). I unplugged the unit expecting it to maintain "alive" and it went off. If I want it to final/function in the course of a power outage, I might as properly get an uninterrupted power supply they use for computers. Also, when the unit is plugged into the phone line and you are applying it, it tends to make a beeping or chirping noise that is heard. If the telephone is plugged into the unit, it in fact hangs up on you! Factory says this is not correct, but I do not want to sent it back and NOT have protection.
I purchased two units, giving 1 to a friend who has seasoned multiple break-ins. Because then, he has been broken into as soon as considering the fact that it was installed. The unit did contact him and his kids and he called me to check his residence (much less then 5 min way). He also did not use the door sensor, only relying on the supplied motion alarm. The alarm will scare people today off, but be warned, there is still time between activating and actually obtaining someone there- at least five-7 min or significantly more. If you want a more rapidly response time, then spend for a monitored alarm service. (Or invest in the external siren to alert neighbors quicker.) When I walked into my home forgetting to disarm the unit with the remote control, it went off using the motion sensor and named me with in five-7 seconds of going off. I test my sensors at least every 3-4 months to make certain they set the unit off and to make confident it calls me.
I have seasoned 1 false alarm. The unit went off and called. Upon inspection of home, the unit reset it is self (I did not memorize all the codes for remote operation)- all doors and windows were secure. Unit was nonetheless armed when entering (applied remote to disarm). It is unclear if it was a malfunction, or if the motion sensors detected a movement. We have in no way had any issues with drapes and heat vents in the past, but we suspected it. Unless a person was attempting to jimmy a sliding glass door and brushed up against the blinds producing movement(?)- but I have not tested that idea.
It was advocate by local law enforcement that an external audible siren be also made use of. The internal alarm and unit going off is enough for 'noise' inside the dwelling, but for an alarm to operate efficiently, an external siren is suggested to alert neighbors of any concerns. (I possibly ordering a lot more internal plug in sirens or 1 or two external battery powered sirens.)
Would I suggest this alarm? Yes and no. Does it function... yes, but not perfectly. Are there much better out there, I'm certain there are. Do your research, see what is offered. I have it already, so I'm creating do.
(Alarms are just 1 tool to aid secure a location. It is not a substitute for not having beneficial door locks/dead bolts. Next step in house defense is to install cameras to record the exterior and any visitors. That way, intruders 'risk' being identified if they try.... Many layers of protection will HOPEFULLY deter intruders from picking out your residence. And yes, dogs are part of that layer also!)
PS-
Very important NOTE---- Very important NOTE
Imperative: When working with an alarm technique that does NOT contact a security monitoring service, DO NOT tell consumers that. It really is far better to make individuals think it is a MONITORED service. If you tell "buddies" and the word gets about, the wrong people today could acquire out. And then the wrong people know that they have "time" prior to an individual actually shows up. Perfect?
This is Terrific, straightforward to setup and use. Only factor missing is it being in a position to link to a wired Siren.
